ASK Project (asylum seekers)
Tel. 685001

ASK Project is based around Bierley Bethel Church and Geoff Clark takes a lead, with asylum seekers mainly from Iran. At first there were just men and then couples and now families. The work is difficult because of Government pressure to refuse asylum seekers. A growing number of people have become Christians from their Irani Muslim background. The need at present is for an Iranian couple to be involved who can help with witness, pastoral care and interpretation. Our present Iranian interpreter is heavily involved with W.E.C. and can only help us on Sunday evenings. We also need to involve those Iranians who are Christians and to provide care and teaching for the children who have been dedicated to the Lord.

Steve and Velveta Thompson are heading up City Music Academy (under their main ministry Beracah Music International) to help music groups across the city and also individuals develop their musical skills. They were also behind the highly successful Christmas celebration ‘Love so Amazing’ at St George's Hall.

Caleb Drugs Project
Tel. 720101

The Caleb Drugs Project is now truly city-wide in its client base, with funding not only from Europe but also from Primary Care Trusts and Safer Communities. There are approximately 20 people on the programme each week at the Caleb Building. A new aspect of the work has been a worker from Caleb being involved in Wyke and Woodside areas. Those involved from Prayer for Bradford are Howard Astin and now Mick Murphy in Wyke.

After many years absence, there is now a CAP centre in the south of Bradford serving BD 4, 5, 6, 7 & 12. It is based and linked to St John's, Bowling. The workers go and visit those who are having trouble with debt, and the central organisation of CAP in Bradford is used to regulate this and bring people out of debt and tell them the about Gospel.

Main Meeting is on Friday nights at the Discovery Centre, Sherborne Road.
Aims are.. 1) to show friendship to international students who can experience culture shock, loneliness and confusion when in the UK; and.. 2) to share Christianity with students coming to the cafe. The way we do so is through Bible studies, talks and cultural events at the cafe and most importantly one to one friendship with team members. Christians of any denomination can volunteer to help subject to an application form, references and their agreement to a statement of faith.

email audiopot

HCJB-UK are the UK arm of HCJB Global, an international media and healthcare mission. Based in Bradford for over 20 years, they have a passion for getting Christian radio programming onto commercial radio stations under the name Whistling Frog Productions. Every Sunday morning between 7 and 10am Colin Lowther hosts "The Full Breakfast" on Pulse Gold - which can be heard on 1275Mw and on digital radio in the Bradford area. Christian groups can email HCJB-UK to get key events advertised.

Audiopot.org is an award winning website where Creative Christian Audio can be downloaded for use in Churches, Schools ... oh, and on the radio! Why not do something different with your sermon or small group? Much of the audio is produced by the Radio Volunteers Group who get together every Tuesday evening to brainstorm, create, write, produce and final edit audio to communicate God in creative ways. Anyone interested in joining the team can email for further information - no existing skills needed - we can train anyone with a heart for radio mission.

Started in 2005 Kidz Klub has approximately 110 - 150 children between 7 and 11 years old come to the venue, St Stephen's Church in West Bowling, each Saturday morning. They are also visited in their homes each week. Peter Shields is the full-time co-ordinator and is helped by Chris Williams, who is doing Transform this year and this is his placement. Those involved from Prayer for Bradford are Nick Jones, Jimmy Hinton, Paul Deo and Howard Astin.

Ministry amongst Asians in Bradford (MAB)
Tel. 665109

MAB seeks to stimulate evangelism amongst the Asians of Bradford and particularly seeks to help local churches in this. In future it hopes to have link persons in each of the churches. It also seeks to relate to the Asian Christians across Bradford who are at present meeting in the Asian Christian Fellowship and also in the group at St Paul's, Manningham, who hold a meeting in Urdu language. Those from Prayer for Bradford on the Steering Group are Philip Dyson, Geoff Clark, Kathryn Carlton and John Bavington.

Real Hope
Tel. 595533

Real Hope meets each Wednesday night at Sunbridge Road Mission and is led by Geoff and Sheila Wilson. It is an outreach to the needy, homeless, addicts and those caught up in prostitution in the city. It provides a meal plus Christian witness to this group. Alan and Bev Gregory also have a ministry to the prostitutes through the week and will have a Transform worker with them this coming year.

Jonathan Hayes is the local worker from the Shaftesbury Society, who are particularly interested in stimulating Christian witness in the work place through "Influencing the Spheres". There are plans to set up groupings with each different sphere in the city, e.g. teachers, police, health workers, retail, etc., etc. Shaftesbury is also working on Christian involvement in two Peace Festivals: "Together for Peace" in Leeds and the Bradford Peace Festival that are happening at the same time this November. A mapping exercise is also being undertaken which will show what community work churches are doing in their locality and across the urban areas of Bradford. This will be furnished on a website.

Bradford University & Bradford College have a combined Christian Union with an Executive Committee that changes each year. Students from the University and College go to a number of churches across the city. There is an advisory group which includes people from Prayer for Bradford such as Terry Henry, Stuart Gregg and a representative from St John’s Bowling. Their role is to provide ongoing guidance and support to the Executive Committee as they seek to equip Christian students and evangelise others.

The vision of Transform is to see people take a "year in" as a sort of gap year where they give a year to either of the cities of Bradford or Leeds. At present there are 8 people on the team, 3 from Bradford and 5 from Leeds, with 2 co-ordinators, one for Bradford and one for Leeds. Ruth Perrin is the overall co-ordinator, who in future will take responsibility for Bradford. The programme is each week a day of discipleship, two days on a placement and two days working for money to help support themselves. Various placements are such as Kidz Klub, Caleb Drugs Project, Leeds Faith in Schools, Welcome to Leeds Asylum Work, Youth Base, etc. Those on the Steering Group from Prayer for Bradford are Terry Henry and Howard Astin.
