Caleb Drugs Project
Tel. 720101

The Caleb Drugs Project is now truly city-wide in its client base, with funding not only from Europe but also from Primary Care Trusts and Safer Communities. There are approximately 20 people on the programme each week at the Caleb Building. A new aspect of the work has been a worker from Caleb being involved in Wyke and Woodside areas. Those involved from Prayer for Bradford are Howard Astin and now Mick Murphy in Wyke.

There are now two CAP centres in Bradford.
One based at St John's, Bowling serves the south of Bradford i.e. BD 4, 5, 6, 7 & 12.
The other is based at the Light Church and serves other areas of Bradford.
The workers go and visit those who are having trouble with debt, and the central organisation of CAP in Bradford is used to regulate this and bring people out of debt and tell them the about Gospel.

Main Meeting is on Friday nights at the Discovery Centre, Sherborne Road.
Aims are.. 1) to show friendship to international students who can experience culture shock, loneliness and confusion when in the UK; and.. 2) to share Christianity with students coming to the cafe. The way we do so is through Bible studies, talks and cultural events at the cafe and most importantly one to one friendship with team members. Christians of any denomination can volunteer to help subject to an application form, references and their agreement to a statement of faith.

“Healing on the Streets”, as a model for city centre prayer, was pioneered by a Vineyard church in Coleraine Northern Ireland.  They provide training materials and a program to follow that seems an ideal resource for groups of churches working together. Using this model, a number of churches in Bradford are planning to work together to provide weekly teams in Centenary Square that offer prayer, and specifically prayer for healing, to those shopping in the city centre. Starting in February 2010, the teams will meet every Saturday from 11 am and pray until 11.30 am. They will then set up a row of 4 chairs in Centenary Square, next to a 5m banner with “Healing” written down it.  From 11.30 am until 1 pm the team is available to pray with passers-by.  There will be small flyers that explain who we are and what we are doing, but the approach is very relaxed.  The team are there in the presence of God to bless the city centre, and as a witness to the extraordinary love of God for people.  When people receive prayer they are given a short follow-up letter, with details of local churches, and will be sign-posted to one in their area.  This letter will be in an envelope also containing a copy of the ‘Why Jesus?’ booklet.. For more information please contact Cassie Biggin. cassiebiggin@gmail.com Tel 07814041901.

Inn Churches Project

The Inn Churches Project is a  Winter Emergency Shelter-4 week pilot project providing 8 beds per night for homeless men and women at rotating churches near the city centre.  Evening and breakfast meals will be provided as well as friendship and support. We plan to open 1 February 2010.
If you or your church would like to be involved by: volunteering as a befriender; cooking or serving meals; aiding with laundry; donating bedding, towels, and toiletries; overnight care; transport assistance; or acting as a host church one night… Then please contact Shawna Splawn on 07852137287 or shawna.splawn@bradford.anglican.org.

Started in 2005 Kidz Klub has approximately 110 - 150 children between 7 and 11 years old come to the venue, St Stephen's Church in West Bowling, each Saturday morning. They are also visited in their homes each week. Peter Shields is the full-time co-ordinator and is helped by Chris Williams, who is doing Transform this year and this is his placement. Those involved from Prayer for Bradford are Jimmy Hinton, Paul Deo and Howard Astin.

Media Hub

The Bradford Media Hub offers a free service to both the media and the church in Bradford to aid communication.
They help the media get to know what the church is really doing and put them in touch with people who are newsworthy and worth interviewing.
They help the churches recognise when they have a story and help them to share it. They work with newspapers, BBC and commercial local radio, Look North and Calendar and use the internet.
They search for opportunities for the church, and it helps the staff-stretched media along the way. Visit www.mediahub.org.uk or email info@mediahub.org.uk for more information.
